Trade Policy
We process trades using a category system. The amounts given for your trade-ins are based on customer demand, current store stock, and the condition of the items being evaluated. While you shop, we sort through your items and set aside what we can use at the time. If you agree to the amount of trade credit we offer we’ll add the amount to your account for current or future use. We ask that each family limit the potential trade items to 35 per day.
Book Categories
| Caregory 1 | New Releases, current “Special Authors”, display, and hard to find books.
Can be used for categories 1 through 4. |
| Category 2 | Any fiction not contained in category 1 as well as young adult & military history.
Can be used for categories 2 through 4. |
| Category 3 | All non-fiction books not including religion or military history.
Can be used for categories 3 and 4. |
| Category 4 | Children’s and religion books only.
Works only for other category 4 books. |
Other Media
| Category 5 | Used comics, manga, and graphic novels.
Can be used for category 5 only. |
| Category 6 | Music CDs, Books on CD, DVDs, and Video Games.
Can be used for category 6 only. |
Using store credit, customers are still responsible for paying $1.00 plus the sales tax on each item, using cash, check or credit card. For example, if you purchase a hardback book for $5.95, $4.95 will come out of your eligible credit and $1.00 plus the tax will be charged. Sales tax is on the full price of the item as allotted by OTC. Credit can only be used on tradeable merchandise.
Non-tradeable items include but are not limited to:
| Gardner’s Gold or Internet Sales | High value or hard-to-find items. These are marked by a gold price sticker. Items bought from the online store are not eligible for credit use. |
| Display Case Items | Items in display cases and specially priced on shelves. |
| New or Specialty Items | Most of these items are marked by green or white price stickers. Items such as new items, toys, board games, vinyl records, puzzles, etc. Promotional sales (BOGO, etc.) are included here. |
| Services | Gift certificates, shipping and handling, special orders, or disc repairs. |

Buy Policy
We sell most types of used media, and while most of our stock comes from the items our customers bring us for trade, we often buy many types of items too. Simply bring the items you’d like to sell to our store at 44th and Mingo and we’ll be happy to look it over and let you know what we’re able to buy.
What we buy depends on customer demand, what we currently have in stock and the condition of the items. We are unable to give prices over the phone or by email.
We are always on the lookout for current titles, children’s and teen’s books, and music (including LPs), action figures and comics. If you’re not sure we’ll buy an item, bring it by. If we think we can sell it, we’ll probably buy it.
Our buying hours are Mon-Sat 10-4
Our “Bounty Hunter” list is posted on our front counter with items we’re always or currently in need of.
